Helping hands board

Our inspiration board is a showcase of the fantastic volunteering work Pod schools are doing and the difference they're making in their communities.

Over a number of weeks we made a hedgehog house. We used all natural materials and an old wooden crate. This is positioned in a safe place on the school field.

Today in ECO club we made 'Bee Houses' using recycled bottles, paper straws, bamboo and wool. We are going to hang these around the school grounds.

St Thomas choir visited a local old peoples home and sang Christmas carols to them. We also took chocolates to share with the people who lived in the home. We enjoyed sitting with them for a cup of tea and a chat after the carols were finished.

For harvest, we donated packets of dried food, pasta, rice etc. and tins of food to the local food bank.

I am saving energy by turning off my night light and I have revamped my bike instead of buying a new one. I'm saving energy and landfill. I am helping my mum from spending money.

Me and my Dad put my neighbours bins out and we weeded their garden for them.

If I see any rubbish in my street I pick it up and either recycle it or put it in the bin.

Last week at Brownies we made bird feeders using pine cones, lard, bird seed and weetabix.

Billing Brook Special School

Working with the National Trust to help maintain the New Inn Farmhouse Garden at Stowe Gardens, Buckinghamshire. We have grown vegetables and herbs for use in the café, weeded paths and beds and cleared lots of leaves!
