Community Litter pick
Well we have completed our 2nd community litter pick and the Eco and council children really got stuck in. Even looking in the hedges and they wouldn't give up until our street was spotless. another planned for the Summer. Next is a big clean up of our own grounds ready for outside learning and activities.
Volunteering at the Food Bank
Year 7 and 8 children got in touch with our local Food Bank to see if we could go and help out! So we went to volunteer sorting the food at the food bank for a morning. We took our harvest festival donations over and then learned about the work the food bank does whilst helping to ensure no food was wasted and that everything was packaged correctly to make the most of the donations. We worked hard and were tired out by the time we got back to school bt it was worth it, we were very proud of ourselves and we recieved a hearty thanks and invite to go to help again!
Our Year 7 and 8 children decided they would like to help the homeless over Christmas. every child helped to make some mince pies for the homeless. We also made bird boxes and sold them at our Christmas fayre to raise money for the local charity. We raised £40! We collected warm socks, jumpers and sleeping bags to support homeless people. All these things were delivered just before Christmas.
community litter pick
The Eco Warriors did a litter pick in the street outside the school with an official Environmental Project Co-ordinator Community Management Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and they are doing a 2nd one on 6th February 2019
The whole of year 3 have written to our dinnertime manager about changing plastic straws for paper ones...and they have changed to paper ones. Also The Eco Warriors have discussed with the pupils likes and dislikes on the school menu and with the lunch box pupils if they would recycle the waste. As a result the manager has taken on board and is sourcing condiments for the tables. The lunch box pupils are going to trial recycling their waste.
Green City, Green Body
Plants and animals are very important and vital part of the world. Save them and make this world beautiful.
First Litter pick
Here we are first litter pick of the new year. 8 children were involved in a litter pick around our school...their bags were full of plastic pieces, paper, cartons and sweet wrappers. They used a clip board and noted what litter, where it was found and how much. Next they will be creating a litter graph. We will then do another litter pick in 2 weeks time. By charting this we hope to see where it is all coming from then they will make posters for around the school grounds.
swich off fortnight
Switch off fortnight is a chance to save electricity with teachers turning their lights off when leaving the classrooms at Lunch time.So this is a chance to save electricity in school .Hopefully other schools can do the same. Make sure you swich off your devices .
We are Bike Smart!
Chennestone School took part in Road Safety Week 2018. The Green team completed an audit to see who wore helmets to school when riding a bike or scooter. Out of 83 children only 41 wore helmets. We needed to take action! The children spoke to the whole school in an assembly and reminded them of how to keep safe on bikes and scooters. Year 1 and 2 took part in pedals training. The whole school designed helmets and posters in a whole school competition. We then spent a morning greeting children as they came into school and auditing how many of them wore helmets. We published the results in the news letter and encouraged the parents to support wearing helmets and for everyone to be 'Bikesmart'.
