Get outdoors for What’s Under Your Feet!
If your school is taking part in our citizen science campaign, What’s Under Your Feet, it’s time to start digging!
To kick off the activity, we have made some fantastic videos with the British Trust for Ornithology, for you and your students to watch:
- Our short introduction film to WUYF with Dr Blaise Martay (BTO Research Ecologist) shows you how to conduct a soil invertebrate survey
- Dr James Pearce-Higgins (BTO Director of Science) and Chris Packham (President of the BTO and Naturalist) discuss ‘Is citizen science important?’
- Nick Baker (Naturalist and TV presenter) gets stuck into soil, and talks all about invertebrates
- Iolo Williams (Naturalist and TV presenter) discusses what inspired him and his love for wildlife
You can download the data collection sheet and all other resources you need here.
If you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time as you can complete your dig on any date during October – find out more, and sign up today!
Every dig counts - the scientists at the BTO are eagerly awaiting your data, the information being collected really is invaluable!
Most importantly – please don’t forget to upload your results to the Pod before the end of November.
We hope you have fun taking part!
