Nottingham City Council run an energy saving programme called SCoRE (School’s Collaboration on Resource Efficiency). The SCoRE programme provides proven financial savings and deals with the issue of energy efficiency and carbon reduction.

Nottingham City Council provides the following support:

  • Energy Efficiency Surveys
  • Provide baseline data on energy consumption
  • Indicate key areas for improvement and areas of potential savings
  • Help to assemble a SCoRE team that will drive changes
  • Raise awareness and take a whole school approach
  • Produce an action plan for schools to work with
  • Renewable energy opportunities including audit of any existing technologies
  • Helping you secure Salix funding to invest in modern, energy efficient technologies
  • Provide whole school assemblies, lessons and competitions to teach energy and emission savings
     

They also run a waste reduction programme called WISE (Waste in School Education). It is a package of environmental education and sustainable waste management activities for all school and early years services within Nottingham.

WISE can can help to:

  • Increase understanding and awareness of waste management issues among staff and pupils
  • Encourage and support pupils to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle waste both in school and at home
  • Advise schools on being legally compliant in terms of their own waste management
